Rye is a thriving creative centre which has attracted famous artists in the past - names such as John Piper, Edward Burra and Paul Nash, to name a few. The area continues to attract artists and there are many art and photographic galleries in the town as well as regular exhibitions and open studios.  Below is an artist gallery showing a range of work by local artists. JOHN RYAN RETROSPECTIVE
 

John Ryan, the author, illustrator and animator, who died on July 22 2009,in his home town of Rye aged 88, created Captain Pugwash, who became much loved on children’s television in the 1970s; he also devised The Adventures of Sir Prancelot and Mary, Mungo and Midge.  During his long career, he created many other characters and produced a large body of work including numerous books and artworks. Visit the John Ryan exhibition at the Rye Art Gallery (until February 2012) which celebrates his life and work through his art.
